Some light painting at the DSVA100 Nature Hot Spots in Ontario: The Best Parks, Conservation Areas and Wild Places

Published by Firefly Books, this book showcases the 100 best nature hotspots in Ontario. One of the included hotspots is the Lennox and Addington County Dark Sky Viewing Area in Erinsville, Ontario.  One of my photos of the site was featured alongside of another image by the great Terence Dickinson to showcase this wonderful dark site and jewel of Southeastern Ontario.

The image itself was rather a lucky shot of the Milky Way pulling towards the end of the summer. There wasn’t much left in terms of the core, but I still managed to get a good view of the rift against a red, light painted foreground.

However, it was much to my surprise that over the summer, I finally was granted the coveted cover image – something reserved for the best of the best images submitted. And not only did it happen once, but I received this top spot twice in 3 months – Issue 29 (June 2016) and Issue 31 (August 2016). In both cases, the cover the best images of the Milky Way that I’d taken through the summer.
